Amato double-double not enough for Lynx at Mitchell

NEW LONDON, CT -- Grace Amato totaled 26 points and 17 rebounds, one of three Lynx to score in double figures in the team's 71-63 loss at Mitchell on Tuesday.

Junior forward Chelsea Contre added 10 points and six rebounds, and sophomore guard Sarah Apgar totaled 10 points and four rebounds.

A Contre three-point play and an Emily Fleming three-pointer helped bolt the Lynx out to a 10-1 lead in the opening minutes, but Cora Harris scored six points in a 12-2 run that put the Mariners in front 13-12, and Mitchell led almost the rest of the half, going into the locker room ahead 30-24.

Out of halftime, and Amato putback for a three-point play brought the Lynx to within 35-31 at the 16:27 mark, and an Apgar jumper with 13:00 left made it a two-point game at 41-39.

After Amato twice pulled the Lynx to within one, a Contre layup tied the contest at 50-50 with 5:28 to play, but Lesley never found a lead and the Mariners pulled away. A Hannah Smith three-pointer snapped the tie, and Mitchell shot an impressive 13-14 at the free throw line over the last 2:00 to ice the win.

Lesley returns to action on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Newbury.
