Caira's big night not enough for Lynx

NEW LONDON, NH -- Senior Brianne Caira posted 14 points and game-highs of 15 rebounds and three blocks, but the Chargers scored 26 points off 27 Lynx turnovers as Lesley fell 65-49 at Colby-Sawyer.

The Chargers improved to 4-0 by getting off to an 11-2 lead to start the contest. The Lynx cut the lead to seven, at 19-12, on a Caira jumper just inside the 13:00 mark and trailed 34-27 with 2:30 left in the half.

With the Lynx down nine, a a Cailin Bullett three-point play with 10 seconds left in the half put Colby-Sawyer up 40-28 at intermission. Caira scored 12 or her 14 in the first, while fellow senior Kaitlyn Wechsler added 10 on 5-5 shooting in the half. Lesley enjoyed by far its best shooting half of the season in the first, hitting 12-23 (52.2 percent)  from the field.

Bullett led Colby-Sawyer with 11 points before halftime.

Lesley came out hot out of the half, as a Rachael O'Mara three-pointer and a Caira free throw cut the margin to eight, at 40-32. However, an 8-0 run spanning 4:00 midway through the second gave the Chargers their biggest lead at 22 points, 55-33 inside the 8:00 mark, putting the game out of reach.

Wechlser led all scorers with 18, but the Lynx were overmatched by a balanced Colby-Sawyer attack featuring six players with seven or more points highlighted by Taylor DeSany's team-best 12 points in 20 minutes. Bullett, meanwhile, added 10 boards to top off her double-double.

For Lesley, O'Mara connected on 2-3 shooting from distance, making the junior 6-8 from three-point range over her last three games. Cassidy Freed turned in her second three-block effort in a week, adding five points and eight rebounds in her 34 minutes.

At 0-4, Lesley takes a week off before resuming its non-conference slate against another opponent from The Commonwealth Coast Conference, traveling to Eastern Nazarene next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
