No. 22 Bowdoin bolts by Lynx with early run

SALEM, MA -- A 22-0 run from Bowdoin, ranked No. 18 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, ended any idea of a Lynx upset in the consolation contest of the Salem State Tip-Off Tournament, which the Polar Bears took 89-45.

Kaitlyn Wechsler led the Lynx with 18 points, playing all 40 minutes. After turning in a six-point, seven-rebound effort on Friday, junior forward Rachael O'Mara posted a season-high 10 points to go along with five rebounds.

Nicole Coombes paced five Polar Bears in double figures with 20 points in 21 minutes, while Alexa Barry added 15 points and four rebounds, and Jill Henrickson added 12 and six on 2-4 shooting from three-point range.

Turnovers have marked the Lynx dismantling in the team's first two games, and Saturday was no different, as a pair of giveaways on Lesley's first two possessions led to four point for Bowdoin, fueling its 22-0 run. Colleen Sweeney scored seven of her 12 points in the run, which was snapped by a pair of Wechsler free throws at the 11:47 mark.  A Caira layup followed, and O'Mara matched a Coombes basket with a jumper of her own with 9:29 left in the first, which would be the last time the Polar Bears lead went under 20.

Bowdoin went into halftime with a 46-19 lead after shooting 51 percent for the periord. Coombes scored 11 and Sweeney added 10 in the first, each garnering a pair of steals as the Lynx turned the ball over 15 times in the period. For Lesley, Wechsler scored eight of her 18 in the first.

For the game, the Polar Bears shot 49 percent, including 6-18 from distance, while holding the Lynx to 37 percent shooting and 3-18 from three-point range. O'Mara hit both of her threes in the second half, converting on 2-4 treys on the day.

Emily Fleming added five assists, four boards and a pair of steals, and Brianne Caira threw in six points and five rebounds as the Lynx fell to 0-3.
