NECC Women's Basketball Pairings Announced

ATTLEBORO, Mass.—Daniel Webster College has claimed the top seed for the 2009-2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women’s Basketball Championship, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites the evening of Tuesday, February 23. The Eagles (20-5 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a 15-1 conference record.

Lesley University (15-8 overall) claimed the #2 seed going 14-2 in conference play. Both Daniel Webster and Lesley have earned quarterfinal-round byes in the six-team tournament field.

Mitchell College (12-11 overall, 12-4 NECC) has earned the #3 seed, Elms College (10-15, 9-7) will be the #4 seed, Becker College (8-17, 8-8) is the #5 seed and Newbury College (9-13, 7-9) has claimed the #6 seed.

In quarterfinal-round action on Tuesday, February 23, #3 Mitchell will host #6 Newbury in New London, Conn. at 7:00 p.m., while #4 Elms will host #5 Becker in Chicopee, Mass. at 7:00 p.m.

The semifinal and final rounds will be hosted by top-seeded Daniel Webster on Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27, respectively, in Nashua, N.H. In Friday’s semifinals, Daniel Webster will face the winner of the Elms-Becker quarterfinal at 6:00 p.m., while Lesley will meet the winner of the Mitchell-Newbury quarterfinal at 8:00 p.m.

The semifinal winners will square off for the NECC Championship Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
