LEICESTER, Mass. – The Lesley University women’s
basketball team ran their win streak to eight in-a-row following a
75-48 victory over New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
opponent Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon. The Lynx improved
to 12-8 (11-2 NECC) while the Wildcats fell to 5-16 (2-11
NECC).
Kaitlyn Wechsler (MERRICK, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy
Academy) led all scorers with 15 points and teammates
Hailee Lowe (HAMILTON, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham
Regional) and Brianne Caira (PELHAM,
N.H./Pelham) each added 10 points in the win. Lowe’s
ten points brings her to 990 for career as the senior will look to
reach the 1,000-point milestone against Wheelock on Tuesday night
on the road.
Wechsler scored the majority of her points from the free throw line
by hitting 9-of-14 attempts after drawing Wildcat fouls.
Bay Path’s leading scorer was Brittney Alexander
(ENFIELD, Conn./Fermi) who led the Wildcats with 11
points, five rebounds, and three assists. Alexander also added
three blocks and a steal on the defensive end. Bay Path’s
only other player in double figures was Christina Calabrese
(HAMILTON, N.J./Hinnock) who had 10 points including two
three-pointers.
Wildcats senior Jessica Hunt (MADISON, Conn./Daniel
Hand), who leads the team in scoring on the season with
14.1 points per game, was held to just eight points in the game.
The forward, however, grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and was
strong defensively with two blocks and four steals.
Bay Path maintained pace with Lesley for much of the first half as
the Lynx shot just 21.9% from the field. Nine points off the bench
from Katie Rathman (READING, Pa./Exeter Township
Senior) helped the Lynx to a six-point advantage at
halftime.
The second half was a different story, however, as Lesley outscored
Bay Path 44-23 by shooting 65.4% from the floor as a team.
Lesley will be back in action on Tuesday night for a road game
against Wheelock College starting at 5:30 pm. Bay Path travels to
Becker College on the same night for a game starting at 6:00 pm.
