CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Behind a game-high 13 points from senior
Georgia Saltzman (LYNN, Mass./Lynn English) the
Lesley University women’s basketball team defeated Wheelock
College 57-36. The Lynx improved to 10-8 (9-2 NECC) while the
Wildcats dropped to 4-15 (3-7 NECC).
Saltzman had an electric first half with 11 points on 5-of-8 from
the floor and four rebounds while playing all 20 minutes of the
period.
Although both teams struggled with turnovers in the first half,
the Lynx were efficient in their shoot and were able to take a
27-17 lead going into halftime. Lesley had a 42.9 FG% while the
Wildcats hit just 24.0% of their shots.
Lesley went to their bench in the second half for an offensive
spark and freshman Erika Hill (DURHAM,
Conn./Coginchaug) delivered with two three-pointers late
in the game to seal the victory. Junior Kaitlyn Wechsler
(MERRICK, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) rebounded from a
tough first half to score seven points on 3-of-6 from the floor and
added four steals.
Wheelock’s Kerry Casey (MEDFORD,
Mass./Medford) was the only Wildcat player to hit
double-digit points with 10 point and six rebounds. Casey also had
two blocked shots in the game. Senior Sarah Brown
(PLAINVILLE, Conn./Plainville) led all rebounders with
nine.
