CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sixteen first half points from Lesley’s Kaitlyn Wechsler (MERRICK, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) helped the Lynx gain a lead that they would not relinquish in a 73-57 victory over Mitchell College.

Lesley reached .500 for the first time this season, improving to 8-8 (7-2 NECC) while Mitchell dropped to 6-9 (6-3 NECC).

Wechsler was 6-of-9 from the field in the first half, including a three-pointer and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. The junior did not score in the second half.

The Mariners maintained pace with the Lynx for much of the first half thanks to a dominating performance on the boards by Destiney Harris (BRISTOL, Conn./Bristol Eastern). Harris nearly reached a double-double in the first period with nine points and 11 rebounds. For the game, Harris had 12 points and 18 rebounds.

Lesley entered the second half with a 36-27 advantage and with 12 points from Brianne Caira (PELHAM, N.H./Pelham) in the period, the Lynx were able to stretch their lead out to double-digits. Caira was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line and finished the game tied with Wechsler for a game-high 16 points.

Two other Lesley players scored in double figures as Hailee Lowe (HAMILTON, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) and Jodi Fralick (WOBURN, Mass./Woburn) had 15 and 10 points, respectively. Lowe added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double and also had five steals and three assists. Fralick had four steals of her own and two assists.

Mitchell’s leading scorer Jen Iglesias (WATERBURY, Conn./Sacred Heart) scored 10 points, seven of which came in the second half. Iglesias found her teammates for five assists and forced three Lesley turnovers.

Lesley’s Cassidy Freed (BRATTLEBORO, Vt./Brattleboro Union) had a solid game off the bench as the Lynx needed her eight rebounds in a tough battle on the glass.

The Lynx will be in action on Thursday, February 4 at 7:00 pm on the road against Southern Vermont College. Mitchell hosts Elms College on the same day starting at 7:00 pm.
