CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women’s basketball team defeated Newbury College 79-56 at home on Saturday afternoon, improving their season record to 5-8 (4-2 NECC). Newbury dropped to 4-7 (3-4 NECC) following the loss.

Lesley senior center Hailee Lowe (HAMILTON, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Lowe completed the double-double with 12 rebounds, including five offensive rebounds. She also tallied five steals and four assists.

The Lynx held the lead for much of the first half but with 32 seconds remaining in the stanza, Newbury senior Rashawna Wynn (BALTIMORE, Md./Southwestern) nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 33-33 going into halftime. In the half, the Nighthawks hit 4-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc to erase the Lesley first half lead.

Newbury’s Katelyn Mark (QUINCY, Mass./North Quincy) scored 11 of her team-high 18 points in the first half. She hit three three-point attempts and finished the game 5-of-7 from long range.

In the second half with the Nighthawks down two points, Mark’s three-pointer gave her team the lead at 41-40. Lesley responded, however, with a 14-4 run that put the Lynx up by nine with 10:42 remaining in the game. By the end of the game, Lesley would stretch their lead to their largest advantage at 23 points.

Kaitlyn Wechsler (MERRICK, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) complemented Lowe’s effort with 23 points, four rebounds and two assists. Her 23 points tied a season-high.

Newbury’s junior guard Ashley Monteiro (CAMBRIDGE, Mass./Cambridge Rindge & Latin) finished the game with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Lesley will be back in action on Tuesday, January 26 for a road game against NECC opponent Becker College starting at 7:00 pm. Newbury hosts Rivier College in a non-conference game on the January 26 starting at 7:00 pm.
