Lowe nabs NECC Player of the Week

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Lesley University senior center Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) was the driving force behind the two wins over NECC opponents’ Mitchell and Newbury. Lowe had a stellar double double performance against the Mariners with 18 points and 10 rebounds and came back to score 20 against the Nighthawks. She averaged 19.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.0 steals for the week. For her two NECC wins, Lowe shot 55% (17-for-31) from the field, 33% (1-for-3) from behind the arc and 100% (3-for-3) from the charity stripe.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Newbury College freshman center Catherine O’Connell (Quincy, Mass.) guided the Nighthawks to a 2-1 week defeating NECC foes Becker (76-74) and Southern Vermont (72-55) and falling to Lesley (78-55). She tallied three double doubles for the week finishing with 40 points and 46 rebounds. She averaged 13.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, a stellar 3.6 blocks and 1.6 steals for the three game series. For the week, she shot 37% (16-for-43) from the field and 53% (8-for-15) from the line.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Becker College junior forward Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) led the Hawks to upsets over two top teams in the NECC, Wheelock 73-64 and Elms 81-68. Leggett put up stellar double doubles in both victories averaging 22.0 points and 10.5 rebounds. He also added 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. For the week, Leggett went 47% (18-for-38) from the field and 73% (8-for-11) from the free-throw line.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Newbury College freshman guard Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) helped the Nighthawks to a 2-1 week leading his team in scoring in all three contests. Newbury went 2-0 in the NECC defeating Mitchell 72-63 and Lesley 68-61, while falling 76-56 to TCCC’s Eastern Nazarene. Young averaged 20.0 points per game, 2.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game and 1.3 steal per game. He shot 50% (21-for-42) from the floor, 48% (11-for-23) from behind the arc and 77% (7-for-9) from charity stripe.
