In the second game of the Saturday afternoon double-header
against Lesley University, the Newbury College women’s
basketball team was handed their second conference loss at the
hands of the Lynx, 78-58. Senior Hailee Lowe (Hamilton,
MA/Hamilton-Wenham) was one rebound shy of double-double as she led
Lesley to the victory with 20 points and nine boards.
After freshman forward Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, ME/Waterville
Senior) hit a lay-up seconds into the contest, the Lynx scored 10
unanswered points to take a 12-2 lead and never looked back. Lowe
led the way netting 12 points in the half as the Lynx took a 42-27
lead into the locker room. They continued their solid play in the
second as freshman Katie Rathman (READING, Pa./Exeter Township
Senior) came off the Lynx bench to score eight of her 14
points.
For the Nighthawks, freshman center Catherine O’Connell
(Quincy, MA/North Quincy) recorded her seventh double-double, and
sixth consecutive, tallying 17 points and 15 rebounds. Junior guard
Ashley Monteiro (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin) led all
Newbury scorers with a game-high 20 points.
With the loss the Nighthawks drop to 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in
the conference while the Lynx improve to 4-7 and 3-1 in the NECC.
Newbury will return to action on Tuesday January 19th when they
host Bay Path College (3-8; 0-3 NECC) at 7:00pm.
