CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In their final non-conference game of the 2009-2010 season, the Lesley University women's basketball team defeated Simmons College 70-64 to improve to 2-6 (1-0 NECC) on the season.  Simmons dropped to 7-4 following the loss.

Strong play from seniors Georgia Saltzman (LYNN, Mass./Lynn English) and Jodi Fralick (WOBURN, Mass./Woburn) in the backcourt helped the Lynx overcome a slim three-point halftime deficit to beat the Sharks.

Saltzman had arguable one of the best performances of her four-year career after pouring in a career-high 21 points.  Saltzman accuracy was on display as the guard hit 8-of-14 shots from the floor and 5-of-6 free throws.  She also grabbed six rebounds while playing 31 minutes on the court.

Fralick also scored a career-high with 14 points.  The NECC assists leader continued that trend by dishing out seven assists in the game.

Simmons' leading scorer was senior guard Julianna Eagles (QUINCY, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) who scored 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field.  Eagles also had five rebounds, three assists, and a steal in the loss.  Fellow senior and captain Stephanie Fox (WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass./Suffield Academy) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.  Fox had a solid overall game by contributing with four assists, four steals, and three steals.

The Sharks went on a 10-4 run over the final 4:49 of the first half to go up 35-32 and overtake the lead going into halftime.

In the second half, the Lynx forced 16 Simmons turnovers which result in 14 points in the period.  Lesley outscored Simmons 38-29 behind 13 points from Saltzman and nine points from Fralick to complete the come-from-behind victory.

Two other Lynx players hit double-digit points as Kaitlyn Wechsler (MERRICK, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Hailee Lowe (HAMILTON, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) and 13 and 10 points, respectively.  Lowe added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.

Lesley will be back in action this Saturday and will host a rematch of last season's NECC Championship game against Daniel Webster.  The Lynx defeated the Eagles to win their first ever conference championship.  Simmons will also play this Saturday, hosting Suffolk University in GNAC competition.
