Lynx roll to 61-50 victory over Eagles on Senior Night

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University women's basketball team defeated Daniel Webster College 61-50 behind 20 points from junior Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) and improved their 2008-2009 record to 15-9 (14-1 NECC).  Daniel Webster dropped to 15-10 (10-6 NECC) in the loss.

Lowe's 20 points came on 9-of-16 from the floor.  The forward added eight rebounds, four steals, and a block to her game totals in 28 minutes on the court.  It was the sixth time this season that Lowe has scored 20 plus points in a game.

Lesley's Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 16 points and grab six rebounds to complement Lowe's effort.  Fellow sophomore Brianne Caira (Pelham, N.H.), two days after recording seven blocks against Elms added six more blocks against Daniel Webster.  Caira also tallied nine points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the victory.

The Eagles had three double-digit scorers in the game as Ali Chojnacki (Erie, Pa.), Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.) and Vanessa Bosques (No. Windham, Conn.) scored 11, 10 and 10 points, respectively.

In the first half, Lesley held a 28-15 advantage but nine straight points from Daniel Webster got the Eagles back in the game.  During that stretch Gervais netted five points and Bosques added four more.  The Eagles would trim a Lynx lead down to just four points at halftime with the score 30-26.

Lesley's low-post threats turned it on in the second half as the Lynx were able to outscore the Eagles 16-2 in the second half.  Lesley's defense also held Daniel Webster to just 23.1% shooting from the floor in the period.

The Lynx were able to expand their lead to as large as 15 points in the second half as the home team held off the Eagles for the 11-point victory.

The Lynx were able to earn this important victory on Senior Night as the team honored three seniors, Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.), Christina DiGiorgio (Lowell, Mass.), and Kelly Harrington (Toledo, Ohio), who have contributed so much to the women's basketball program over the past four years.

Lesley will finish off the regular season on Sunday as they travel to New London, Connecticut to face Mitchell College at 1:00 pm.  Daniel Webster has finished their regular season and will wait to see who they face in the NECC Quarterfinals on Tuesday.
