Lynx sweep season series against Hawks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University women's basketball team defeated Becker College 64-57 on Thursday evening and with the victory have reached the highest win total in a single season for any Lynx women's basketball team in school history.  Lesley improved to 12-9 (11-1 NECC) while Becker dropped to 11-10 (7-5 NECC).

Lesley sophomore Brianne Caira (Pelham, N.H.) played her best game of the season as the center netted 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.  Caira also recorded three assists and two blocks.

Fellow low-post threat Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) tallied a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lynx were able to overcome a solid performance from Beth Pion (Enfield, Conn.) who finished the game with 24 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.  Pion caused problems for Lesley both in the low-post and from long range as the senior hit 7-of-17 shots including four three-pointers.

Becker's Courtney Fiske (Westfield, Mass.) also tallied double-digit points with 13.

The Hawks were winning 39-38 in the second half when Caira gave the Lynx a lead they would not relinquish by scoring Lesley's next 10 points.  Caira's effort was part of a Lesley low-post effort that outscored the opponent 18-10.

Lesley will be back in action on Saturday at Southern Vermont College.  Becker travels to Mitchell College on the same day.
