Lesley defense shuts down Wheelock

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Lesley University women's basketball started another New England Collegiate Conference winning streak on Tuesday evening after defeating Wheelock College 62-40 behind four double-digit point scorers.  With the win, the Lynx improved to 11-9 (10-1 NECC) while the Wildcats dropped to 2-18 (2-9 NECC).

Lesley proved their status as the number one defense in the conference by forcing 29 turnovers and holding Wheelock's leading scorer Sarah Brown (Plainville, Conn.) to zero points.  It was the second time this season the Lynx have shutdown an opponents leading scorer.

Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) and Rachael O'Mara (Levittown, N.Y.) used a strong inside game early on as both shot a perfect 4-of-4 from the field in the first half.  Lowe ended up the game with a game-high 14 points and six rebounds while O'Mara finished with 13 points, nine of which came from long range shooting.

Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points, but was most effective with her passing game as the sophomore dished out six assists.  Brianne Caira (Pelham, N.H.) posted a solid game for the Lynx as well with 11 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and three assists.

The Wildcats leading scorer came off the bench as Joy Holliday (Milford, Mass.) scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.  Elise Ordille (Waltham, Mass.) and Sharrell Brown (Brooklyn, Mass.) each scored eight points in the loss.

Lesley will be in action on Thursday as they will host Becker College in an important NECC match up.  Wheelock travels to Elms College to play the Blazers on the same night.
