CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) recorded her best game of the 2008-2009 season, tallying 33 points and 15 rebounds, as the Lesley University women's basketball won the battle of undefeated teams in the New England Collegiate Conference. The Lynx beat the Mitchell College Mariners 68-54.
The Lynx improved to 7-8 (6-0 NECC) while the Mariners dropped to 6-8 (5-1 NECC).
In 38 minutes on the court, Lowe hit 16-of-25 shots from the floor for a Lesley squad that had 46.6% field goal percentage. The junior forward also tallied three assists and two steals in the triumph.
Teammate Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) also had a personal best in this game, scoring 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. Wechsler was near perfect from the charity stripe, hitting 7-of-8 attempts.
Mitchell's Jen Iglesias (Waterbury, Conn.) scored a team-high 20 points. The junior finished the game with four rebounds, three steals, and two blocks as well.
Both teams struggled with turnovers throughout the game. The Lynx committed 21 miscues in the first half but still managed to hold a 35 to 19 advantage at the break.
In the second half, the Mariners stepped up their defense even further as they were able to force turnovers and outscore the Lynx. In the middle of the stanza, Mitchell went on a 13-5 run to pull within reasonable distance but the Mariners were unable to break a double-digit deficit.
Lesley was able to capitalize on their low-post size, outrebounding Mitchell 48-23 in the game.
The Lynx have a day off and will be back in action Thursday night, January 29 for a 6:30 pm game against Southern Vermont College. Mitchell hosts Elms College on the same night at 7:00 pm.
