Bon Appetit Classic Tip-Off Tournament Day 1

Anna Maria dominates in second half over New Rochelle

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In the second annual Bon Appetit Classic Tip-Off tournament hosted by Lesley University, Anna Maria College defeated The College of New Rochelle 70-35 to move on to the championship game on Sunday.

Anna Maria had quality contributions from Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.), Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.), Chrystal Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) and Maggie Sielawa (Webster, Mass.) who each dropped 21, 16, 14, and 10 points, respectively.

The game was held to a close margin in the first half as New Rochelle's Ruchelle Austin (Bronx, N.Y.) scored eight points and 10 total rebounds, but Anna Maria went to the locker room with a 10 point lead.

In the second half, however, Anna Maria stepped up the defense as Eagles, Sielawa, and Kirsi Garafalo (Natick, Mass.) each chipped in with three steals to help hold the New Rochelle to just 17.6% shooting and 10 points.

With the victory, Anna Maria earned the right to play the victor of the Yeshiva University and Lesley University game.
