Lesley holds off Wheelock to win 66-55

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Lesley University defeated Wheelock College on Wednesday evening 66-55 in a North Atlantic Conference match up.  With the victory, the Lynx improved to 8-6 (3-2 NAC) while the Wildcats dropped to 2-11 (1-5 NAC).

Lesley took a 38-24 advantage going into halftime courtesy of an impressive first half performance from Lynx freshman Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) who scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the line.  Brianne Caira (Pelham, N.H.) had a solid overall first half as she tallied six points, six rebounds, three blocks and an assist.

Wheelock stormed back, however, in the second half behind sophomore Sarah Brown (Plainville, Conn.) who scored 12 of her game-high 23 points on quality jump shots in the second half.  The Wildcats also got aggressive with their low-post presence as Callahan Moore (Nantucket, Mass.) scored eight points in the half on 2-of-7 from the floor and drew fouls to hit all four of her free throws.

With Wheelock's offense back on track in the second half, the Wildcats cut Lesley's lead down to two points at 56-54 after an 11-0 run with only 5:46 remaining in the game.

Lesley would not relinquish the lead, however, as solid defense from Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) and key free throws from Wechsler down the stretch sealed the win for the Lynx.

This weekend, Lesley will host Castleton State College on Friday January 25 and Johnson State College on Saturday January 26.  Wheelock will also host the same teams this weekend, with Johnson State on Friday and Castleton State on Saturday.
