NAC honors Wechsler with the Rookie of the Week award

WHITINGHAM, Vt. - Freshman forward Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) has earned North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season after helping the Lynx post a 2-0 record this week in two crucial non-conference games.

Wechsler averaged 12.5 ppg and 4.0 rpg in two Lesley victories against UMass-Boston and Lasell College.  In the team's first game against UMB, a 60-55 win over the Beacons, Wechsler had 10 points, two rebounds, three steals, and one assist.  Wechsler was 3-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line.

In the second game of the week against Lasell College, Wechsler had 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and three steals in the 73-54 victory over the Lasers.  Wechsler was solid again from the field hitting 3-of-5 shots and all nine of her free throws.

Head Coach Dan Hunt raved about his freshman's performance, "Kaitlyn had a great week, and she showed her willingness to get to the basket and take the physical pounding that comes along with that.  I think her confidence is continuing to grow daily, and I really think she can be a major player for us as the season goes on.  As with all freshmen, consistency has been a struggle at times, but she seems to have figured it out more, and hopefully she will become the scoring threat we know she can be.  We are very lucky to have her and the rest of the freshmen class here at Lesley, as they open our eyes from week to week, and they compliment the play of our veterans."

The Lynx reopen conference play this week as the team will travel to Maine Maritime Academy on Friday January 18 for a game at 8 p.m. followed by Husson College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
