Leakeas scores 14 in loss to Johnson State

BRAINTREE, MA - The Lynx were unable to contain Shelly Szkutak (Lake Placid, N.Y.) who had 26 points and 13 rebounds as Johnson State College beat Lesley 73-58.

The Lynx got a solid effort out of Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.) who had 14 points and 8 rebounds and Kelly Harrington (Toledo, Ohio) who had 10 points.  However, Lesley was outmatched on the glass as the Badgers out rebounded the Lynx 46-34.

Casey Rusin (Wilmington, Vt.) and Jenna Lewis (Middlebury, Vt.) aided Szkutak as they contributed 18 points and 8 rebounds, and 17 points and 9 rebounds respectively.

The Lynx were slow out of the gate and trailed by 11 points less than 4 minutes into game.  However, they showed resiliency and were able to hang close with the Badgers for much of the first half.  With 10 minutes left in the half Harrington nailed a jumper to bring the Lynx to within 4 points.  Lesley was able to hang around for awhile until the Badgers pulled away and led by 12 at the half.

Lesley continued to chip away at the lead in the second half and with 12 minutes remaining a Leakeas jumper brought the Lynx to within 6. Alas, the Badgers were to strong in the end and were able to pull away from the Lynx over the final 10 minutes en route to the 15 point victory.

With the loss the Lynx drop to 2-5 on the season and 0-4 in conference.  For more information on the Lesley women's basketball team please go to their website.
