Mount Ida dominates in 98-47 victory

NEWTON, Mass. - Freshman Nicole Casimiro (Lee, N.H.) tallied 21 points and six assists to boost the Mount Ida College women's basketball team to a convincing 98-47 victory over Lesley University this evening at the Mount Ida Athletic Center. The forward connected on 10-of-13 shots from the field, as the Mustangs picked up their first league win of the 2006-07 campaign.

All ten players found the scoring column for the Mustangs, who shot a sizzling 56.8% (42-74) from the floor. Senior forwards Adrienne Xenos (Brockton, Mass.) and Danielle Ring (Leicester, Mass.) each recorded double-doubles in the contest. Xenos finished with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field. She also came up with ten rebounds and a game-best six steals. Ring totaled 14 points, 15 boards and three blocks.

Mount Ida also received solid production from freshman forward Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, Mass.), who made 7-of-8 shots en route to 14 points off the bench. Senior guard Kristin Santos (Tiverton, R.I.) posted 12 points to round things out for the hosts.

The Lynx were paced by junior guard Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.), who came away with 16 points. Sophomore guard Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) knocked down a pair of three-pointers on her way to ten points, and junior forward Kaitlin Laquerre (Hudson, N.H.) pulled down a squad-high eight rebounds.

Mount Ida scored 14 of the game's first 16 points and never looked back. The Mustangs used a 17-0 run to open up a 25 point edge (34-9) with 7:53 remaining in the first half. They took a 28 point edge (51-23) into the locker room after leading by as many as 35 (49-14) in the game's opening frame.

Lesley came out of the gates strong in the second half. The Lynx sliced the deficit to 26 points (55-29) with 16:37 remaining in regulation, but Mount Ida outscored the guests 43-18 down the stretch to seal things.

Mount Ida (3-4, 1-2 NAC) continues its six-game home stand versus the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday. The non-conference clash is slated to tip-off at 1:00 p.m. Lesley (2-4, 0-3 NAC)  will return to action on Friday, when it hosts Johnson State College for a league game beginning at 8:30 p.m.
