BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Lynx snapped their three game losing
streak in a big way against Newbury College. Lesley got a
complete team effort and routed the Nighthawks 69-41 in
Brookline.
Lesley was led by Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) who had 15 points
and eight rebounds. Lowe got a ton of support as two other
Lynx finished in double-figures and all but one finished with at
least six points. Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) and
Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.) went for 12 points each.
Christine Buchanan (Nantucket, Mass.) had seven points and a team
high 10 rebounds. Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) had a
game-high eight assists.
The Nighthawks were led by Jessica Lightfoot who had 15 points. Jessie Laliberty had 12 points and added 11 rebounds to complete the double-double. Taraja Laws added six points of her own and a game-high 14 rebounds for Newbury.
The Lynx had a comfortable 12 point lead (29-17) at the half. Lesley did not slow down in the second half and shot better from the field and the three-point line than they did in the first, as they poured it on against Newbury. Lesley outscored Newbury by 16 (40-24) in the second half.
Lesley used great shooting and outstanding pressure defense to keep the Nighthawks off-balanced the entire game. Lesley had 15 steals and forced 24 Newbury turnovers, while only losing the ball 10 times.
With the win the Lynx improve to 5-13 on the season. Lesley travels to Maine this weekend to take on Thomas College and The University of Maine at Farmington. For more information on the Lesley women's basketball team please go to their website.
