THE LEAD— In a high-scoring contest that saw five ties and lead changes, the Lesley University men's basketball fell to the Husson University Eagles, 94-82, on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lesley's offense started quickly, as the squad took an early 7-2 lead behind six points from Malachi Howard (Winter Haven, Fla.). However, the Eagles responded with a 9-0 run that gave Husson an 11-7 advantage before calling a timeout. Jeremy Moronta led the Eagles' offense with six points during the stretch.
- As the opening half continued, both sides matched the other's intensity, and with the score tied at 26 with 5:54 left until halftime, Tarell Joseph (Hempstead, N.Y.) gave the Lynx a 29-26 advantage.
- Later in the frame, Husson gave itself breathing room when Scott Lewis knocked down a free throw, making it 34-29 with 3:21 left until halftime. Lesley responded the next time down the court after CJ Leonard (Raynham, Mass.) hit two free throws and made it a three-point game (34-31).
- Despite being down three, Husson would not let Lesley get any closer and closed out the remainder of the half on a 7-4 run for a 41-35 halftime lead.
- The second half started the same as the first when Howard knocked down a jumper, and the Lynx found themselves down four (41-37) at 19:46. However, Husson did not let Lesley get closer and grabbed its first 10-point (51-41) lead thanks to a 10-4 spurt which led to a Lynx timeout.
- After the break in action, Husson's momentum continued into the second half. The visitors pushed their lead to 19 (68-49) before another Lynx timeout was called with 11:13 remaining.
- Husson continued to keep the Lesley offense at bay for most of the second, and late in the half, after Lewis made it 89-72 on a layup, Lesley's offense made a late game surge and was down 10 (92-82) behind a 10-3 rally. Unfortunately, the Eagles were able to hold off the late rally and earned a 94-82 win.
