THE LEAD—The Lesley University men's basketball team wrapped up a brief two-game road trip with a nonconference matchup at Dean College but came up short 89-70 on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening moments of the first half, both sides traded baskets as each team was tied at nine five minutes in. However, Lesley briefly gave itself breathing room with a 6-2 spurt to go up 15-11 after a Tavon Rhodes (Dorchester, Mass.) layup. Also, during the Lesley scoring run, CJ Leonard (Raynham, Mass.) chipped in with four points on back-to-back buckets.
  • Despite the four-point advantage, the Bulldogs evened things at 15, but even though they tied things, the Lynx once again pulled ahead by four (19-15) after layups from both Malachi Howard (Winter Haven, Fla.) and Angelo Blas (North Port, Fla.)
  • While Lesley continued to hold a four-point (21-17) advantage with less than 10 minutes in the first (09:39), Dean took a four-point lead of its own (29-25) courtesy of a 12-4 run before the Lynx called a timeout with 4:35 left in the half. Jaisan Parker and Randy Vasquez spearheaded Dean's run, scoring four points apiece.
  • Coming out of the timeout, Lesley once again recaptured the lead when Hezekiah Brown (Stafford, Va.) made a layup that made it 31-29 with 03:26 remaining in the half. However, the hosts closed out the remainder of the first with an 8-0 run to go up 37-31 at halftime.
  • At the start of the second, it was all Dean as the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 50-41 lead nearly four minutes into the half before the hosts called a timeout. Billy Ray Barnes led the early scoring for Dean with six points.
  • After the timeout, the Bulldogs continued to apply the offensive pressure and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest. Dean grabbed its largest lead of 22 (88-67) with less than two minutes to play before ultimately securing an 89-70 win.
