THE LEAD – Thanks to a 51.5 percent shooting percentage from the field and 46.9 percent shooting from three, the Lesley University Lynx men's basketball team cruised to a 90-55 win over Southern Maine Community College Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seawolves opened the contest by jumping out to a 7-2 lead, thanks to Julius Silva, who scored five of the visitors' seven points. Later in the period, Lesley grabbed its first lead of the contest thanks to a four-point play from Jaxon Miles (Arlington, Texas) that made it 10-9 with 14:51 left to play.
- Both sides continued to play hard defense as the first went on and with Lesley up 18-12, Southern Maine CC trimmed the deficit to four (18-14) after a Sean Bosia layup. However, the Lynx generated their first double-digit lead of the contest, scoring the following six points. CJ Leonard (Raynham, Mass.) led the way for the squad four of the six points during the stretch. From then on, the Lynx closed out the rest of the first half on a 21-8 run for a 45-22 lead at the half.
- As the second half got underway, Lesley continued where it left off in the first and started out on a 15-11 spurt that made it 60-33 before the Seawolves had to utilize a timeout.
- Coming out of the timeout, the Lynx's hot shooting stayed the same all over the court, including a stretch late in the second when Austin Hamilton (Stafford, Va.) knocked down four straight three-point shots. One of his threes gave Lesley its largest lead of the night (82-41) with just 7:55 left. As the game went on, Lesley's strong defense and solid shooting kept the game in hand for the Lynx as the squad secured a 90-55 win.
