THE LEAD –  Lesley hosted UMPI in back to back nail biting matchups this past weekend, splitting the series 1-1. Lesley, ranked #7 in the NAC pre-season poll, overtook #2 UMPI for their first conference win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1

  • A three-pointer from Alexander Curtis put the first points of the match on the board, and gave Lesley a quick lead. A layup and free throw-later the two teams were once again neck and neck.
  • The two teams continued to go point for point deep into the first half. The two teams broke for halftime with Lesley closely trailing UMPI 29-26.
  • The second half opened up with a three-pointer from Tarell Joseph to tie the match up. UMPI responded with seven unanswered points. Joseph answered with another three-pointer and Lesley trailed 37-34 with 15 minutes to go.
  • UMPI slowly strengthened their lead, forcing Lesley to call a timeout with seven minutes to go.
  • Two back to back three pointers with 2 minutes left in the match gave Lesley the momentum they were looking for, trailing by just a singular point with 1:42 to go.
  • A series of fouls and free-throws solidified the Owls 59-55 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Joseph lead the Lynx with 24 points, and seven rebounds. He went 4-4 from the line, and 4-9 from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2

  • Both teams began Saturday's match similar to Fridays, going point for point with neither team gaining a significant lead on the other.
  • Two free-throws from Kai Burridge and a three-pointer from DJ Alexander gave the Lynx a six point lead with 11 minutes left in the half.
  • Lesley's offense continued to fire off shots and solidify their lead, eventually finishing the half with a 42-29 lead.
  • Lesley continued to dominate through the second half, firing on all cylinders as all nine players who entered the game put points on the board.
  • The match ended with a Lesley win, 66-60 the first conference "W" of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Malachi Howard dominated in the paint for the Lynx, posting a double-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds, a steal and block on the match.
  • Ayman Amghar had a career high performance posting 10 points, 5 rebounds and a steal for the Lynx.
