Late Three Sends Hawks Soaring Over Lynx

LEICESTER, Mass. - The Lesley University men's basketball team dropped the season series to Becker College in heartbreaking fashion following a 69-68 loss, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Saturday afternoon.

Becker senior team captain Kyle Credle (Queens, N.Y. / Benjamin N. Cardozo) buried a game-winning three-pointer with seven seconds left to give the Hawks of Becker (15-5, 11-0 NECC) the victory, maintaining their perfect conference record and sole possession of first place in the NECC standings. Credle finished with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior forward Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y. / Campus Magnet) dominated in the paint with a career-high 35 points and 16 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass. / St. John's) dished out a career-high eight assists and scored nine points with four boards. Becker outrebounded Lesley 46-36.

The Lynx of Lesley (13-9, 7-6 NECC) were led by senior forward Pierre St. Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Devon Mayo (Newport News, Va. / Denbigh) had 17 points and eight boards, while sophomore forward Xeo Golding (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Prep) added 16. Junior guard Marquise Johnson (Hampton, Va. / Heritage) dished out seven assists and scored nine points.

Becker led by as much as 10 in the first half, going into halftime leading 30-27. Then with 8:28 remaining in the game, Credle hit a jumper to put the Hawks ahead 54-42, and held a ten-point lead with four minutes to go off a layup from Durodola.

The Lynx would rally, however, with a staggering 12-0 run, the first six of those points coming from Johnson. Down for the first time in the game, the Hawks turned to Credle, who tied it up at 66-66 on two free throws with 1:10 left.

St. Simon put the Lynx up again with a layup with less than a minute remaining to put the visitors ahead 68-66, and that remained the score with seven seconds left when Credle pulled up for the dagger three.

Lesley would miss a shot before the buzzer sounded, with Durodola pulling down the board to secure the win.

The Hawks of Becker are back on the court on Monday when they head to Southern Vermont College for a 5:00 p.m. game. The Lynx of Lesley hosts Mitchell College next Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
