Men's Basketball Trounces Rams, Mayo Named to All-Tourney Team

NASHUA, N.H. – Lesley University junior Joey Martin (Melbourne, Fla.) scored 18 of his team-high 23 points in the first half as the Lynx trounced Unity College 92-63 in the final day of the Rivier University Tip-Off Tournament.

Martin ignited the offense that stayed in high gear all afternoon by shooting 9-of-11 from the field, including hitting 4-of-6 from down town. The Lynx knocked down 13 total three's – their most since hitting 13 in a win over Mitchell College on February 14, 2012 – to notch their highest scoring total since the 2006-2007 season.

Fellow junior Devon Mayo (Newport News, Va.) added 15 points to go with four boards and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Lesley jumps to 2-1 on the year, their best starting since 2011-2012, while Unity falls to an even 5-5.

Martin came off the bench and was on fire from the start as he hit his first four shots while the Lynx built up a lead by as many as 28 in the first half. Lesley never trailed in the game.

Sophomore Xeo Golding (Windermere, Fla.) also drained four from beyond the arc on his way to 19 points while freshman LaMarr Mitchell (Baltimore, Md.) added ten off the bench for the Lynx. Junior Marquise Johnson (Hampton, Va.) filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals while classmates Will Gibson (Melbourne, Fla.) and Treyvon Trent (Virginia Beach, Va.) and senior Pierre St. Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each added four points.

The Lesley defense matched the offense as they swiped 19 steals and forced 24 Ram turnovers that turned into 47 points. The Lynx also held a 36-26 edge on the glass, including grabbing 17 offensive boards that led to 27 second chance points.

The Lynx will open up their home schedule on Tuesday when they welcome Wentworth Institute of Technology at 8:00p at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
