Lewis Snaps Freshman Scoring Record in Win Over Newbury

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Lesley University freshman Trevonn Lewis (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 25 points to lead the Lynx to a 62-53 win over Newbury College in the season finale for both squads tonight at Hellenic College Gymnasium. Lewis' effort propelled him to 290 points on the season, snapping the program record for points in a season by a freshman set by Jesus Trejo, who finished with 289 in the 2007-2008 season.

The Lynx finish the season with a 7-17 overall mark and 5-11 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play while the Nighthawks wrap up their 2013-2014 campaign with a 3-22 record on the season and 3-12 in league play.

Junior Justin Rosa (East Brunswick, N.J.) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Lynx and senior Kris Bennett (Inglewood, Calif.) grabbed a team-high 11 boards to go with his four points. Classmate Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) chipped in with eight points and nine caroms.

Senior Eric Watson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the Nighthawks offense with 25 points while Mills Carrasco (Haverhill, Mass.) provided a spark off the bench with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Junior David Hart (Keene, N.H.) pulled down a team-best 11 boards in the loss.

Newbury struggled from the field, amassing just a 29-percent (19-of-66) shooting percentage while Lesley drilled 41-percent (25-of-61) of their shot attempts on the night.

The Lynx starting five did the brunt of the damage for the visitors, out-scoring the Nighthawks starting lineup by a 56-27 margin. Lesley also held a slim 47-44 advantage on the glass.

After heading into the break knotted at 27-27, Newbury opened up play in the second half with a 7-2 spurt to take a 34-29 edge. The Lynx would lock down on the defensive end, holding the Nighthawks without a field goal over the next six minutes as they opened things up with an 18-5 run to reclaim the lead, 47-39.

Lewis sparked the offense with back-to-back buckets while junior Nikalus Oliver (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) chipped in with four of his five points during the streak.

Lesley finished the season winning five of their last seven games.
