Rountree, Liggon Carry Becker over Lynx

LEICESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Yahmad Rountree (Waterbury, Conn.) posted a game-high 21 points while pulling down eight boards to lead Becker College to a 61-49 victory over visiting Lesley University in NECC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Leicester Gym. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Hawks of Becker, who are now 11-10 overall with a 7-5 record in the conference standings. The Lynx of Lesley are now 6-14 and 4-7 against NECC opponents.

Roundtree shot nine of 14 from the floor with two blocks, dominating early in the second half when Becker pulled away. Freshman forward Rashaun Liggon (Elizabeth, N.J.) had 14 points, a game-high ten rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore guard Donovin Ford-Hayes (Windsor Locks, Conn.) contributed 12 points with a game-high four steals and four rebounds. Freshman guard Darius Sealy (Cambridge, Mass.) added nine points with five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Junior guard Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) led Lesley with 13 points, hitting three of six from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Justin Rosa (East Brunswick, N.J.) added 12 points, while junior forward Kris Bennett (Inglewood, Calif.) had a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Anthony Mattocks (Sarasota, Fla.) added eight points.

After trading baskets early on, Becker got their fast-break going to take a 16-9 lead after a layup from Ford-Hayes with 14:44 remaining in the first half. Two Lesley three-pointers cut the lead to one, but the Hawks closed out the period on a 12-4 run, capped off with a put-back jumper by Roundtree, and Becker went into the break leading 28-19. Ford-Hayes and Roundtreee each had nine points for the Hawks while Kaufman led the Lynx with eight. Becker out-rebounded Lesley 20-12 in the first half.

The Hawks' entered the second half with renewed energy, holding the Lynx scoreless in their first five possessions. This sparked Becker to a 12-2 run to take a 19 point lead, including a steal and fast break dunk from Roundtree. Lesley made several attempts to cut into the lead, but were never able to reach a single-digit deficit. The lead reached 21 at 57-36 on a layup from Liggon with 6:17 left in the game. As a team, Becker shot 53.6 percent from the floor after the break.

Up next for Becker, the Hawks travel to Daniel Webster College on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. contest. Lesley hosts Regis College for their next opponent on Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. tipoff.
