Daniel Webster Tops Lynx in NECC Battle

Nashua, NHDaris Cosby (Albany, N.Y.) registered a team high 14 points with 12 coming in the second half, and Dave Schindewolf (Robbinsville, N.J.) continued his solid play of late, adding 11 points and nine rebounds as host Daniel Webster topped Lesley, 66-57 in a defensive NECC battle at Mario Vagge Gymnasium Tuesday night.

A trio of Eagles – Dave Feinstein (Londonderry, N.H.), Ryan Gauthier (Nashua) and Rufus Louf (Salem, Mass.) – notched eight points each as the Eagles (7-10, 3-5 NECC) won their second straight league contest.

DWC withstood a strong outing from Lesley's Justin Rosa (East Brunswick, N.J.) who tallied a game-best 21 points and added six rebounds, while Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) added 13 points and Matt Gibson (Quincy, Mass.) notched 10. Kris Bennett (Inglewood, Cal.) pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds.

DWC finished shooting 37-percent to Lesley's 32-percent, but the Lynx were hurt by only 27-percent shooting in the second half and turned the ball over 15 times to DWC's eight. DWC finished with a 15-8 advantage on points off turnovers and an 8-3 win in second chance scoring. Lesley eked out a 40-39 advantage on the boards.

Lesley led by as many as seven in the first half before a late Eagle run gave the hosts a 31-29 lead at the break. DWC clung to a 39-37 lead with 11:33 remaining but used an 8-3 run with jumpers from Cosby and Aiden Collins (Paterson, N.J.) to gain some breathing room at 47-40 with 7:54 left.

Lesley stayed within striking distance and a Rosa layup pulled the Lynx to within six at 53-47 with 3:37 to go, but John Hickson (Springfield, Mass.) followed inside and a Cosby three from the deep left corner pushed the lead to 10 (58-48 with 2:25 left and DWC let Lesley no closer than eight down the stretch.

The Eagles head on the road for their next three NECC contests, beginning with a stop at Southern Vermont on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  Lesley hosts Elms on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
