STRONG FIRST HALF LEADS MIT PAST LYNX

(CAMBRIDGE, Mass.) - Four different players scored in double figures as the nation's top team (d3hoops.com) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) rolled to an 82-49 victory over the Lesley University men's basketball team on Thursday night at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols gymnasium in Cambridge, Mass.

Justin Rosa (East Brunswick, N.J.) paced the Lynx with 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting, while teammate Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

Mitchell Kates led the Engineers of MIT with a game high 22 points and eight assists to go along with five rebounds. Jame Burke poured in 19 points including 6-11 from behind the arc, while Will Tashman added 15 points and Justin Pedley chipped in with 13 points.

MIT jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on Pedley's first trey of the match. Three-pointers by Matt Gibson (Quincy, Mass.) and Rosa helped the Lynx pull to within five (15-10) but the Engineers rattled off an 13-3 run, capped by a Tashman lay-up, to open up a 28-13 lead midway through the first half before entering the break with a commanding 42-19 lead.

MIT continued to roll in the second half, opening up a 29 point lead (51-22) with 15:28 remaining. Despite the deficit the Lynx continued to play tough as two straight 3-pointers from Kaufman helped spark the Lynx to a 17-7 run over a span of six minutes to cut the MIT lead to 19 (58-39) with less than ten minutes remaining. It would be as close the Lynx would come in the second half as MIT held Lesley to 10 points the rest of the way to earn the opening night victory.

The Lynx shot just 24 percent from the floor in the first but would respond in the second half, shooting 50 percent to finish 36.7 percent for the game. Lesley also finished 29.4 percent from behind the arc (5-17) and 8-10 from the charity stripe.
The Engineers were hot from the field all night finishing 30-57 (52.6 percent) including 14-25 from behind the arc and 8-11 from the foul line.

Lesley next hits the road traveling to take on Roger Williams University in the Roger Williams University Courtyard Marriot Tournament tomorrow at 6:00 pm.
