Second half cold spell haunts Lynx in 71-59 loss

WESTON, MA -- An early second half run lifted the Pride, and an ensuing span of nearly eight minutes without a field goal kept Lesley down in Regis' 71-59 victory, leapfrogging the Lynx in the NECC standings Tuesday night at Higgins court.

Three three-pointers from three different Lesley guards each gave Lesley three one-possession leads in the first 8:00, with Bryant Itonyo's second trifecta of the opening period giving the Lynx a 21-18 lead midway through. An Alex Perez layup extended the lead to 23-18, but that would be the Lynx largest lead.

Regis guard Ahmad Charles took off on an 8-0 run with back-to-back treys in under a minute, followed by a Charles layup just over a minutes later, which put Regis up 26-23. Clinging to a one-point lead, the Pride held Lesley without a field goal the last 2:00 in taking a 39-34 halftime lead.

A Robert Edwards jumper capped an 11-4 run out of halftime that put Regis ahead 50-38, and the team led by double-figures the remainder of the night. A Justin Rosa three-pointer just inside midway point of the frame cut the margin to 62-46, but Lesley went without a field goal for the next 7:52, until another Itonyo three-pointer at the 2:04 mark again made it a 16-point game, far too much ground for the Lynx to cover in the final seconds of their 71-59 loss.

Charles led all players with 27 points on 10-13 shooting, including 5-7 shooting from distance. Edwards added 11 points and a pair of blocks for the Pride, which improves to 9-12 overall and 6-6 in the NECC.

Forward Kris Bennett led the Lynx with 12 points on 4-5 shooting from the floor and 4-5 shooting at the stripe. Itonyo knocked down 3-7 from long-range, and a day after being named NECC Player of the Week, John Sanchez was held to 11 points, hitting 6-6 at the free throw line.

Lesley travels to first place Becker College on Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
