CAMBRIDGE, MA -- A day after earning New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week honors, Lesley University senior John Sanchez has been recognized as a guard on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, a national accolade lauding the top performer at every position.

Sanchez's week was a memorable one, to say the least, as it included a buzzer-beating jumper, a road win at the league's No. 2 team and his 1,000th career point.

In the Lynx 69-67 win over MASCAC opponent Plymouth State on Tuesday, Sanchez sank the game-winning jumper with 2.7 seconds left, scoring 16 points, handing out a game-high nine assists and pulling in four rebounds. On Thursday in the Lynx 65-63 win at second-place Wheelock, Sanchez scored 23 points, shot 10-12 from the free throw line and dished out seven assists.

However, the California native's career milestone came in front of a home crowd on Saturday. His first half 19-footer marked point No. 1,000 for his three-year career with the Lynx, and he led the team with 25 points and nine assists in Lesley's 85-73 win over Southern Vermont.

For the week, the 5-foot-8 dynamo averaged 21.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 2.3 steals and shot over 65 percent from the field, 87 percent from the charity stripe and 50 percent from three-point range. Playing all 40 minutes in all three games didn't wear him down in the least, as Sanchez not only scored efficiently and at will, but he operated the offense as precisely as ever, earning a 2.3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Selected by D-III News as a Preseason All-America candidate and as the Preseason NECC Player of the Year, Sanchez leads the NECC by wide margins in assists (103, 74 for 2nd), assists per game (5.2 to 3.9) and  free throws (157 to 89) and ranks second in points per game (18.4), free throw percentage (.863), steals (52) and steals per game (2.6). As one of the shortest players in the conference, Sanchez remarkably ranks second in the NECC in field goal percentage at .513, leading the Lynx in all of the above categories.

At 10-10 overall and in fourth place at 6-6 in NECC play, his Lynx returns to action Tuesday night at Regis at 7:30 p.m. Below is this week's D3Hoops Team of the Week:
