BENNINGTON, VT -- Sophomore guard Mike Kaufman nailed 8-10 three-point field goals, setting a Lesley record for treys in the Lynx 59-52 win at Southern Vermont Saturday evening.
Point guard John Sanchez shot 7-10 from the floor and 7-10 from the free throw line as the Lynx overcame a 10-point deficit to move to 2-3 in New England Collegiate Conference play.
Trailing 28-18, a pair of Kaufman threes helped bring the Lynx to within 30-29 at halftime. A Sanchez three-point play gave Lesley the lead at 41-40 at the 15:00 mark of the second half, and a Taeshon Johnson putback put the Mountaineers back on top by the score of 49-48 with 10:20 to play.
Kaufman answered immediately. The sophomore guard cashed in on a triple on the ensuing possession, rebounded a Travis Severs jumper and knocked down a three-pointer at the other end to give the Lynx the lead for good at 54-49.
A Johnson three brought the Mounties to within three with under 4:00 to play, but Sanchez answered with jumpers on back-to-back possessions, and he and freshman Alex Perez iced the win at the line in the final seconds.
At 2-3 in NECC play, Lesley plays host to Daniel Webster on Tuesday night at 8:00.
