BOSTON -- John Sanchez led the Lynx with 21 points on 12-13 shooting at the free throw line, but a 15-1 mid-game run distanced UMass-Boston in its 78-57 victory Thursday night at the Clark Athletics Center.

Sanchez connected on 4-5 shooting from the field and snatched a game-high five steals, but the Beacons inside-outside, one-two punch outmanned the Lynx, which were playing for a third time in four nights. UMass guard Isaac Jenkins knocked down 2-4 from three-point range in scoring a game-high 25 points, and center Brian Clarke added 13 points while pulling down a game-best 16 rebounds underneath as both teams moved to 3-5 on the year.

Trailing 22-15, a Sanchez traditional three-point play, three-point field goal and two Alex Perez free throws tied the contest at 23-23 with 2:51 left in the first. With the Beacons back up by a pair, a Jenkins trey just outside the 1:00 mark sent UMass into halftime leading 29-24 thanks largely to its 22-10 advantage on the glass.

After scoring six of the last seven points to close out first half, UMass-Boston picked up where it left off out of the break. Three straight Clarke layups capped a 9-0 Beacons run to start the second. What turned out to be a 15-1 run sent UMass ahead 38-24, and the home team led by a dozen or more the remainder of the way.

Clarke grabbed 12 of his 16 rebounds in the first half and scored eight of his 13 in the second as the Beacons outrebounded Lesley 50-27 on the night. The team also shot 8-19 (42 percent) from deep, with Mike Caceres coming off the UMass bench for 16 points in 16 minutes on 4-6 shooting from long-range.

For Lesley, senior Bryant Itonyo shot 2-5 from downtown for his eight points, and sophomore Mike Kaufman hit 5-6 at the stripe, adding seven points and three rebounds in 18 minutes.

While the Lynx were outmuscled on the boards, the visitors earned a whopping 37 free throws, hitting 27 for a 73 percent clip. UMass, meanwhile, converted only 12-27 at the line for 44 percent.

Sanchez continued his stellar play, addind five assists and four rebounds to his 21-point, five-steal effort. He leads the Lynx into action for the final time in 2011 on Saturday at home against Regis College.
