CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley senior guard John Sanchez has been chosen as a Preseason All-American and named New England Collegiate Conference Preseason Player of the Year by D-III News in the publication's "Preseason Preview 2011-12" issue.

D-III News names Sanchez, a 5-foot-8 point man who led the NECC and finished in the top 20 nationally with 5.9 assists per game last year, among 28 other Honorable Metion selections after naming its 24 All-Americans.

The publication's writers also tabbed Sanchez, who finished third in the conference in scoring at 16.8 points per game, as the NECC Preseason Player of the Year and the league's only player cited for national accolades.

An All-NECC First Team selection in 2010-11, Sanchez is a multi-versed threat who can score the ball as well as he distributes it. On top of his near 17 points per game, his 1.4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked him third in the league. He also finished fourth in the conference by shooting 81 percent at the free throw line, made even more impressive since his 216 free throw attempts were by far the most in the league.

Sanchez is the first Lynx player to receive the honor of preseason All-American by any publication. He and the Lynx open the season at home on November 15 at 8:00 p.m. against Mount Ida.
