Sanchez named NECC Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- After a career week that saw him hit a game-winning free throw in the Lynx last-minute triumph over Curry and score a career-high 26 points on Saturday at WIT, Lesley guard John Sanchez has been named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week.

Sanchez broke a 74-74 tie with 15 seconds remaining in sinking the game-winning free throw in Thursday's 75-74 non-conference victory over TCCC foe Curry College. The 5-8 guard scored a team-high 17 points, dishing out a game-best 11 assists to only three turnovers, adding a pair of steals and five rebounds.

On Saturday at WIT, Sanchez poured in a game- and career-high 26 points on perfect 10-10 shooting from the charity stripe and 2-3 shooting from downtown, scoring 22 points in the second half and adding eight assists, four boards and two steals.

For the week, Sanchez averaged 21.5 points, 9.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and two steals in 35.5 minutes per game. The junior shot 47.6 percent from the field, 84 percent from the line and 40 percent from three-point range, running the Lynx offense to the tune of a 2.4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Sanchez leads the Lynx back in action on Thursday as Lesley plays host to UMass-Boston at 8:00 p.m.
