LEICESTER, Mass. – The #5 seed Lesley University
men’s basketball suffered a 85-53 loss to #1 seed Becker
College in the New England Collegiate Conference Semifinals and saw
their 2009-2010 season end. The Lynx finished with a 9-18 record,
reaching the conference playoffs and improving four wins from last
year’s 5-20 team.
Becker improved to 18-8 and advanced to the NECC Championship to
face #2 seed Elms College, who defeated #3 seed Wheelock College
56-52. This will be a rematch of the 2008-2009 NECC Championship
game that ended with a 105-76 victory for the Blazers.
Junior center Jesus Trejo (METHUEN, Mass./Methuen)
made Lesley men’s basketball history as he became the first
Lynx player to reach the 1,000-point milestone in program history.
With a layup in the paint just 2:44 into the game, Trejo achieved
this historic milestone as he continues to build upon his Lesley
all-time leading scorer numbers. Trejo finished with 11 points and
nine rebounds in 34 minutes on the court.
Senior Alex Green (BATON ROUGE, La./Robert E. Lee)
dropped a team-high 17 points on 8-of-13 from the floor and point
guard John Sanchez (CARSON, Calif./Saint John
Bosco) added 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, and
two steals in the loss.
Becker had four players in double figures who were led by
Rajai Leggett (NEW HAVEN, Conn./Sheehan) who
scored a game-high 19 points. DJ Exum (NEW LONDON,
Conn./New London), Mudia Osemwegie (ROSELLE,
N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption), and Terrance
Favors (BOSTON, Mass./Bedford) all reached double-digit
points with 18, 12, and 10 respectively. Exum added six assists in
victory.
The two teams exchanged the lead for much of the first half with
Lesley holding a slim advantage at 16-15 with 8:51 remaining in the
period. The Hawks, however, went on a 15-2 run over the next 4:45
to gain a 12-point advantage at 24-18. Becker cruised to a 38-25
lead going into halftime.
The #1 seed Hawks quickly took control at the start of the second
half with a 12-2 run over the period’s first 4:12 to take a
23-point lead at 50-27. Lesley was never able to get back into the
game as Becker went on to take the runaway victory.
