Men's basketball to host first round playoff game after victory

FARMINGTON, Me. - With home court advantage at stake going into the first round of the North Atlantic Conference playoffs, the Lesley University men's basketball defeated UMaine-Farmington 64-57.  The victory capped off a tremendous 4-0 run against conference opponents to earn the right to host the first round match up.

The leading scorer for the second game in a row was senior Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, Nev.) who finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, a steal and an assist.  Fellow captain Joe Chatman (Boston, Mass.) had 16 points, five steals, and four assists in the victory.  Chatman was flawless from the line, hitting all eight of his free throw attempts.  Freshman Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.) came up with a big performance as he tallied yet another double-double in his rookie season.  In just just 25 minutes, Trejo had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Farmington's offense was led by three players in double-figures as Isaac Hutchinson (Oakland, Me.), Ted Neil (Strong, Me.) and Eric Taylor (Oakland, Me.) had 12, 12 and 10 points, respectively.  The Beavers were without the services of Sean Fry (Jay, Me.) who did not play and Matt St. John (Wayne, Me.) scored just three points in the loss.  Both players recently passed 1,000 points for their collegiate careers.

The Lynx stormed off to a 19-6 run early in the first half and led 34-25 going into the second half.

The Beavers, however, would gain their first lead of the game with 11:00 to go in the game.  With Farmington up 57-54 after a three-pointer by Hutchinson, the Beavers would not score for the rest of the game as the Lynx went on a 10-0 run to end the game.  Chatman would score six of those points to give Lesley the victory.

With the win, Lesley improved to 10-15 (8-5 NAC) while Farmington dropped to 11-14 (7-6 NAC).
