Lesley basketball splits with Thomas College

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Lesley University played a North Atlantic Conference double-header with Thomas College on Saturday afternoon and split the series with the Terriers.  The men defeated Thomas 71-34 while the women lost 79-62.

In the men's game, the Lynx saw contributions from several different players and maintained stifling defense against the Terriers.  James Parker (Sandwich, Mass.) led the Lynx with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting beyond the arc while Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.), Jermaine Harris (Methuen, Mass.), and Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, Nev.) had 13, 10, and 10 points respectively.  Trejo completed a double-double as he grabbed 13 rebounds.

Lesley scored 34 points off of 30 Thomas turnovers in the game.  The Lynx were also able to maintain a presence in the paint as they outscored the Terriers 42-6 in that category.

Thomas was led by Isaiah Brathwaite (Farmington, Me.) who had seven points and six rebounds in the game.  Andrew Duncanson (Portland, Me.) had six points in the game, but had seven turnovers.

In the women's game, Lesley struggled to get their offense going in the first half as they found themselves down 38-25 going into the locker room.

In the second half, the Lynx were able to get themselves back on track offensively as they were led by senior Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.) who finished with 23 points on 8-of-18 from the floor.  Lesley also had a big performance from freshman Cassidy Freed (Brattleboro, Vt.) who had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Despite playing better in the second half, the Lynx could not catch up with the Terriers offensive.  Thomas had four players in double-figures including Karen Demers (Sanford, Me.), Cortney Barrett (Monmouth, Me.), Lea McNary (Marlborough, Conn.) and Amy Miles (Waldo, Me.) who had 16, 15, 15, and 14 points, respectively.  Barrett had a double-double as she grabbed 12 rebounds in the game.

Both the men's and women's teams for Lesley will face Elms College Tuesday February 12 starting at 6:30 p.m.
