THE LEAD – The Lesley University baseball team split its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader at SUNY Cobleskill (2-6, 14-8) on Saturday afternoon at Fighting Tiger Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • After both sides went scoreless in the first inning, SUNY Cobleskill would get on the board first thanks to a three-run second which included an RBI triple from Ryan Lansing that made it 2-0 at the time.
  • Thanks to a James Brandon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) RBI in the third that made it a 3-1 game, Lesley pulled within one in the fourth after Owen Kalagher (Fairfield, Conn.) took adavantage of a wild pitch.
  • Once again both sides would go scoreless in the fifth inning however, the Fighting Tigers would pull ahead by four (6-2) after their second three-run inning in the sixth. Lansing highlighted the scoring in the frame with a homer that made it 5-2 at the time.
  • Going into the final inning Lesley was threatening after the Lynx were able to load the bases with one out after Brandon ripped a single to left which advanced Colby Jacobs (Charlton, Mass.) after he was hit by a pitch earlier, and Christian McElroy (Toms River, N.J.) to second who singled earlier. Unfortunately, SUNY Cobleskill pitcher Evan Balbera was able to get the next Lesley batter to ground out into a game-ending doubleplay for the 6-2 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Brandon's RBI marked his 29th of the season.
  • Lenhard was dealt with the loss in game one after tossing 6.0 IP while allowing 12 hits and six runs and striking out three.
  • Korin Laurilla and Lansing led the SUNY Cobleskill offense with two RBIs apiece in game one.
  • Fighting Tigers starter Logan Scott got the win by going 4.0 IP and allowing three hits and two runs while fanning one.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • In game two, SUNY Cobleskill struck first once again with a three-run second to go 3-0 early on. However, Lesley responded in the third and evened things at three courtesey of a Colin McCarthy (Rehoboth, Mass.) three-run shot.
  • Lesley's offense would continue where it left off in the third thanks to a six-run fourth inning to pull ahead 9-3. Jacobs gave the squad its initial lead in the frame after he smacked a two-run shot to put the Lynx up 5-3 at the time. Later in the inning, after McCarthy was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Justin Dennett (Fairfield, Conn.) would rip a two-run RBI single that made it 7-3. Kalagher and Caden Shott (Richmond, Calif.) would also chip in RBIs during the Lynx high-scoring inning as well.
  • Lesley starter Jacob Nemergut (Monroe, Conn.) was solid after SUNY Cobleskill's three-run inning in the second as the senior held the Fighting Tigers scoreless for the next three innings as Lesley continued to pile on the runs. The Lynx would go onto tack on two more runs in the fifth courtesy of RBIs from Dennett and Kalagher that pushed Lesley's lead to nine (11-3).
  • The hosts would respond in the sixth by trimming two-runs off the Lesley lead making it a 11-5 ballgame thanks to a two-run RBI triple from Jeffrey Gutierrez. Despite the two runs, the Lynx answered the Fighting Tigers with a three-run seventh which was highlighted by a two-run RBI double of the bat of Kalagher.
  • Down 14-5 in the seventh, SUNY Cobleskill would not go quietly after a Gutierrez RBI would make it 14-8 after SUNY Cobleskill scored two more times prior in the inning. Even with the late push, it would not be enough as Lesley pitcher Patrick Teasdale (Stamford, Conn.) shut down the Fighting Tigers rally by forcing a ground out to secure the crucial 14-8 NAC win.
