THE LEAD – The Lesley University baseball team had its home opener Wednesday night when the squad hosted Clark University but unfortunately fell to the Cougars, 16-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After keeping Clark scoreless at the top of the first, Lesley threatened at the bottom of the frame when Owen Kalagher (Fairfield, Conn.) drew a walk. From there, he was able to steal second, but unfortunately, late in the inning, he was picked off, and then the Cougars forced a groundout to end the first.
  • However, during the next four innings, the Cougars scored a combined seven runs to go up 7-0. In the second, Carter Doran started the visitors' scoring with a two-run RBI single to left, and he recorded another RBI in the fourth, which made it 4-0 at the time.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, the Lynx threatened again as Kalagher ripped an RBI single up the middle and later stole second. The next at-bat saw Raymond Morales (Naugatuck, Conn.) draw a walk to give Lesley runners at first and second with two outs. Unfortunately, Clark was able to get a strikeout in the next at-bat to end the Lynx threat.
  • The seventh inning was all Cougars as Clark plated nine runs during the frame to go up 16-0. In the high-scoring, Alfonso Jalil highlighted Clark's scoring with a three-run shot that made it 16-0. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars retired the side and secured the 16-0 win.
