THE LEAD – The Lesley University baseball team resumed action in the Montclair State Round Robin Weekend, with its second game taking on Swarthmore College. Unfortunately, the Lynx fell to the Garnet by a score of 14-3 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore jumped on the Lynx early by scoring 10 runs in the top half of the first. Matthew Silvestre and Max Roffwarg both had two-run RBI singles in the frame to highlight the Garnet offense in the first. Lesley got one run back in the bottom of the second thanks to a Kevin Dorsey (Cibolo, Texas) sacrifice RBI which made it 10-1.
- After the Garnet responded with a run of their own in the top of the third, the Lynx matched Swarthmore's scoring from the half-inning prior with a Justin Dennett (Fairfield, Conn.) RBI single that found a gap in center field.
- The Garnet offense kept the Lynx at bay and added three more runs between the fourth and fifth innings, including a two-run fifth that made it 14-2. Later in the final inning, Lesley again chipped away thanks to a Dennett RBI single that went past the Swarthmore shortstop, making it 14-3. However, Swarthmore generated a Lesley double play in the next at-bat to grab the 14-3 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
