THE LEAD – Thanks to a five-run fifth inning, the Lesley University baseball team secured its first series win of the year with a 14-4 victory at Fisher College Tuesday evening. James Brandon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Roy Lenhard (Shelton, Conn.) also recorded career milestones in the win. Brandon knocked in his 100th career RBI, and Lenhard struck out his 100th career batter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lesley's offense started quickly by scoring a run in the first two innings and jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two. Justin Dennett (Fairfield, Conn.) got the Lynx on the board in the first with a sacrifice fly, and in the second, Brandon singled up the middle for the team's second run.
- Fisher had no answers for the Lesley pitching staff throughout the first five innings. Both Lenhard and Jacob Nemergut (Monroe, Conn.) held Fisher to just three hits and eight strikeouts including a stretch in the fifth where Nemergut struck out the side.
- After the Lynx tacked on another run in the inning prior, thanks to a Cal Caruso (Sarasota, Fla.), Lesley stretched out its lead even further courtesy of a five-run sixth inning that made it 8-0. Both Kevin Dorsey (Cibolo, Texas) and Christian McElroy (Toms River, N.J.) each had two-run RBI singles in the frame to highlight the Lynx offense.
- Although Fisher grabbed one run back in the bottom half of the sixth, Lesley's offense struck again, plating three more runs in the top of the seventh, making it 11-1. However, the Falcons would not go quietly as the hosts had a three-run inning of their own and made it 11-4 thanks to RBIs from Jatnier Torres and Yariel Salinas.
- Even with the Falcons making it a single-run ball game, Lesley once again went up double digits with a three-run eighth, which made it 14-4. Brandon's 100th career RBI highlighted the inning for the Lynx after he was hit by a pitch to score the team's 12th run.
- In the final inning, Lesley pitcher Patrick Teasdale (Stamford, Conn.) shut the door on the Falcons, retiring the side in order for the 14-4 victory.
