THE LEAD - In what was the finale of the squad's time down in Myrtle Beach, the Lesley University baseball team fell to Hilbert College, 7-3, Thursday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides' pitching staff kept things scoreless early on, but in the bottom half of the second, Hilbert struck first after a Garrett Brink sacrifice fly, which gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, after a runner scored on a balk, John Watson drove in the third run with an RBI double to right.
- However, in the top of the third, Lesley trimmed the deficit to one (3-2) courtesy of RBI singles from both Justin Dennett (Fairfield, Conn.) and James Brandon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) both of which came with two outs.
- Despite making it a one-run ballgame, Hilbert's offense struck once again with a four-run third to make it 7-2. Harley Hoag's two-run RBI double highlighted the Falcons' offense in the frame, which made it 5-2 at the time.
- From then on, reliever Brendan Walsh kept the Lesley offense at bay with two scoreless innings, but in the seventh, Lesley got one run back to make it 7-3. After an early flyout, Kevin Dorsey (Cibolo, Texas) and Keenan Hobart (Newington, Conn.) reached base for the Lynx thanks to a hit-by a pitch and RBI single. Later in the inning, Caden Shott (Richmond, Calif.) drove in Dorsey with an RBI single that found a gap in right field. Unfortunately, the next at-bat saw a Lesley ground out, and Hilbert secured the 7-3 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Three different Lynx each recorded an RBI for the squad Thursday (Dennett, Brandon, and Shott).
- For the Falcons, Hoag, and Brink each finished with two RBIs on the day to pace the offense.
- Thursday's matchup marked the first between the two schools.
UP NEXT
- Lesley returns back to Massachusetts for a three-game set with Fisher College on Sunday, March 16, in a doubleheader slated to start at noon.
