THE LEAD – Lesley University earned the series win over Thomas College with a 4-2 Game 2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Minuteman field. The Lynx fell to the Terriers in Game 1, 14-3, but took the weekend series three games to one.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- Lesley scored three runs in the third to open the action on an RBI single to left by James Brandon followed by a two-RBI triple to right-center from Cal Caruso.
- Thomas answered in the top of the fourth, plating four runs (three earned) to take the lead for good as Tony Meza delivered the go-ahead two-RBI single to left to give Thomas a 4-3 cushion.
- It remained a one-run game until the wheels fell off for Lesley in the seventh as the Terriers plated 10 runs on nine hits to blow the game open at 14-3. DJ Cagnina and Patrick Temby both had two hits each in the frame.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- Cagnina enjoyed a career-day going 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while Temby posted three hits to lead TC.
- Jarrard Willette (3-2) went the distance to earn the win scattering nine hits with six walks and one K in the outing.
- The set-back snapped the Lynx program-record 12-game winnings streak.
- Owen Kalagher picked up a 3-for-4 showing in the defeat while Adam Budorick collected two hits for LU.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
- The Lynx got on the board with a run in the first on an RBI single by Budorick to put the hosts on top for good in a tighter affair than the opener.
- Lesley doubled the lead to 2-0 in the third on another Budorick RBI single while Jacob Nemergut held the Terriers bats at bay on the mound.
- In the fourth, Brandon connected on a two-out RBI double down the left field line to bump the lead to 3-0 and the run proved to be the eventual game-winner.
- Thomas got on the board in the fifth when Hayden Dippner doubled to right-center to drive in Aaron Young, cutting into the deficit at 3-1.
- Brandon blasted his eighth homer of the year in the sixth for an insurance run to move the lead to 4-1.
- The Terriers got it back in the seventh but could not complete the comeback at Nemergut went the distance to earn the complete game 4-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)
- Nemergut earned his third victory of the year allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out seven.
- Brandon finished the game going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run while Budorick added three hits and two RBI.
- Cagnina added two more hits for TC, giving him seven on the day while Dippner was the only other Terrier with a multi-hit outing going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Tyler Cantey (1-3) earned the loss working 4 and 2/3 innings and giving up three runs on eight hits.
OF NOTE
- The Lynx head into the final weekend of NAC play needing just one win in their four-game series vs. VTSU Lyndon to clinch a berth in the 2024 NAC Baseball Postseason.
- Thomas is still alive for a NAC postseason berth but needs Lesley to go 0-4 vs. the Hornets while they need to go 5-0 in their last five conference games against VTSU Lyndon (1) and UMaine Farmington (4).

- Lesley has its final regular-season mid-week tune up on Tuesday, April 30 when they head to Dean College for a 3:30 PM contest in Franklin, Mass.
- Thomas takes on VTSU Lyndon tomorrow at 4:00 PM in a make-up game originally scheduled for April 7.
