THE LEAD –  The Clark University baseball team (13-1) closed out a five-game homestand with a 5-4 victory over Lesley (6-3) on Wednesday afternoon from Granger Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx scored two runs in the top of the first on homers by Adam Budorick and Owen Kalagher before sophomore Dom Mariani and junior Carter Doran each recorded RBI's as the team tied the game at 2-2.
  • After Lesley took a lead in the top of the second on a Budorick sac fly and added an unearned run in the top of the third to go up 4-2, the Cougars tied the game at 4-4 as junior Ryan Bonja belted a two-run homer to left field that plated sophomore Brayden Hollinrake.
  • Graduate student Jose Mencia tossed a scoreless fourth and fifth inning and in the top of the sixth, senior Cory Giannelli came in and pitched allowed no runs as the game remained tied at 4-4.
  • Junior Tyler Jones broke the tie with a homer to left field that gave the Cougars a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Graduate student Benjamin Spencer entered the game in the top of the seventh and tossed three scoreless innings to earn his third save of the year as Clark won 5-4.

INSIDE THE NUMERS  

  • Despite only collecting five hits on the day, the Lynx worked a season-high eight walks including three a piece from both Justin Dennett and Caden Shott.
  • Mariani and Bonja paced Clark with two hits and a run scored.
  • LU starting pitcher Jacob Nemergut (0-2) suffered the setback on the mound working 6.0 innings, scattering nine hits and surrendering the five runs with three K's.
  • Roy Lenhard and Patrick Teasdale each worked a scoreless inning of relief with two K's in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

UP NEXT

  • The Lynx host Emerson College on Saturday, March 23, 2024 for their home-opener with a 12:00 PM first-pitch.
  • Clark returns to the field tomorrow afternoon with a road game at RIC beginning at 3:30 PM.
