Come Back Cats scratch and claw to knock off ENC, 9-8, in the Extra Inning Victory

Lexington, MA- Despite trailing in the game at four different points, the Lynx found a way to take the lead when it mattered most in the bottom of the eleventh inning to grab their first conference win of the season against the Lions of ENC. 

Inside the Game: 

  • The Lions were able to maufacture the first run of the game in the second on a fielder's choice to move ahead, 1-0.
  • Lesley came back immidiately with a run of their own in the bottom half, when a Jesus Moscat single drove in Andrew Gryniewicz
  • ENC came right back, capitilizing on defensive misqueues to go ahead 6-1 after the top of the third. 
  • The bats of the Lynx didn't roll over however, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth as key hits from Moscat, Colby Jacobs and James Brandon brought the game back to even. 
  • A wild pitch in the seventh pushed across the go-ahead run to make it 7-6 in favor of ENC. 
  • Once again, the Lynx found a way to keep the game going, as a sacrifice fly off the bat of Justin Dennett pushed across Matthew Ceruti to tie the game at 7. 
  • Extra innings saw zeros through the 8th on through the 10th, as a CJ Fusco double nearly brought home the winning run with a double; as Jacobs was nabbed trying to score. 
  • The top of the eleventh saw the first run of extras, when a Ferguson single drove in a run to make the score 8-7.
  • In the following half, the Lynx battled with two outs.
  • A Gryniewicz walk, Dennett single, and Colin McCarthy walk loaded the bases with two outs. 
  • The bases-loaded wild pitch brought across the tying run in the form of Gryniewicz with the winning run just 90 feet away. 
  • After an Adam Budorick hit by pitch, a Christian McElroy bases-loaded walk sealed the walk-off victory for the Lynx. 

 

Lynx Highlights:

  • Colby Jacobs was 2-4 with 2 RBIs , a run scored and a walk. 
  • James Brandon was 2-3 with a RBI and a walk. 
  • Andrew Gryniewicz reached base 4 times in 6 plate appearances.
  • Justin Dennett had himself a day, going 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. 
  • Jesus Moscat went 2-3 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. 
  • Dylan Langston appeared out of the pen and was dominant. Over 4 2/3 innings of relief, Langston struck out 4 while only allowing 1 run to record the win on the mound. 

 

The Lynx (10-16, 1-5) will be back in action tomorrow, April 17th against Lasell at Brandeis University. First pitch is set for 11am.
