Lynx Eliminated From Postseason With Losses to NEC and ENC

GAME OVERVIEW:

HENNIKER, NH. – The Lesley Lynx Baseball team were knocked out of the NECC Baseball Tournament on Friday afternoon, losing their first game to New England College 11-0 and falling in the loser's bracket to Eastern Nazarene 7-4.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • It was all Pilgrims in the first game of the NECC Tournament. They put three runs on the board in the first inning, thanks to a double by NECC Player of the Year JD Normand to drive in one. Normand and Brady Philibott would later score on an error by Lynx shortstop Justin Dennett.
  • NEC added three more runs in the third inning to make it a quick 6-0. Patrick Hagerty drove in two with a double and was immediately followed up by a Tyler Gendron single to drive Hagerty home.
  • The Pilgrims added five more late runs to put the Lynx away in the seventh inning. They had four straight run-scoring hits: a double by Haruto Takahashi scored two, a double by Devin Parsons scored Takahashi, a single by Hagerty brought Parsons home (though Hagerty was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double), and Gendron wrapped it all up with a home run.
  • Shaun Cormier earned the win, going seven innings and allowing only four hits. Evan Swift was handed the loss for the Lynx, allowing six runs in four innings.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • The Lynx took on Eastern Nazarene in a fight to stay in the tournament after the Lions lost to Mitchell College. ENC went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Shane McNamara to drive in Tyler Bean.
  • Lesley fought right back, scoring four times in the top of the second. After James Brandon reached on an error by ENC shortstop Frank Landeiro and Colby Jacobs singled, Ian Spillane singled to drive in Brandon. Ian Dempsey singled to shortstop later in the inning that let Jacobs and Spillane score. After a single by Adam Budorick sent Dempsey to third, he stole home for the fourth Lynx run.
  • The Lions got two of the runs back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run by Bean. From there, it was all ENC to finish the Lynx off. Steve Pesce drove in two runs with a double in the fourth inning to put the Lions back in the lead and they added insurance runs on a base hit by Bean and homer by McNamara in the sixth and seventh innings.
  • Morgan Weast got the win in a complete game effort, striking out eight batters while allowing four unearned runs. Dylan Langston got the loss for Lesley, allowing six runs over five and a third innings.
  • The Lions move on to tomorrow's continuation of the tournament, while Lesley's season comes to a close.
