GAME OVERVIEW:

LEXINGTON, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Baseball team earned their first conference win of the season with a walk-off victory over the Mitchell College Mariners on Saturday morning. The Lynx won the first game 9-8 before the second game was postponed due to rain. The Lynx advance to 12-14 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Mariners fall to 18-7 overall and 3-2 in the NECC.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• Mitchell got out ahead early with three runs in the top of the first. Dougie DelaCruz sent the first two runners to reach home with a double and later in the inning Owen Robbins drove in Lelo Martinez by reaching on an error.
• The Mariners added another in the second inning on an RBI single by Angel Galindez, but the Lynx got themselves back in the game quickly. Ronnie James scored the first run on a wild pitch, with Matt Ceruti then drawing a walk to re-load the bases. Ian Dempsey continued his hot streak with a base hit up the middle to score Andrew Gryniewicz and Colin McCarthy, then helped Matt Ceruti score on by drawing a throw to second on a groundout by Adam Budorick. Ceruti's run tied the game at four.
• Matt Falk put the Mariners back in the lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning, then Mitchell got another run in the fifth. Bo Yaworski was picked off first base with Galindez on third base and the Lynx were unable to get either runner out as Galindez come in to score.
• Dempsey brought the Lynx back within in a base hit to score Gryniewicz, then came in to score the tying run on a single by Budorick. Robbins and Falk both drove in their second runs of the game in the sixth to put the Mariners ahead, but Christian Rapoza came in to relieve starter Evan Swift and shut Mitchell down.
• Justin Dennett's base hit in the sixth inning to score Dempsey made it a 8-7 game and a 1-2-3 inning by Rapoza kept it that way heading into the home half of the final inning. After a leadoff walk by James, James Brandon doubled to send in the tying run but was thrown out at third. The game looked headed to extra innings, but back-to-back two-out walks by Dylan McDonald and Colby Jacobs set up Dempsey to be the hero. He sent a line shot into left field to bring McDonald home and give the Lynx their first conference win of the season.
• Dempsey now has four hits and nine runs batted in over his past two games, while Budorick has five htis and six RBI. Rapoza earned the win for the Lynx, while Sam Majewski was handed a blown save and a loss.
